Slacker (1991)
This film offers a day in the life of Austin, Texas 1991 through a bunch of vignettes. It is as if the camera is floating from conversation to conversation all over the city throughout the course of a day. There are no reoccuring characters and no scenes that last more than five minutes. But there are a bunch of interesting and entertaining conversations among all sorts of people, mostly in their mid 20s. The conversations range in topics from political philosophies and conspiracy theories to metaphysics and pop culture. For not having a plot, this film is extremely entertaining. Each of the characters is unique and captivating or charming in their own way. I've never seen a movie like it, the way it just moves from random scene to random scene, but it's an interesting look at a day in the city. There are things happening all around and this film lets you look at all of them as it peruses around town. It's a real throwback to the early 90s with the clothing style and culture. Conspiracy theories are a big theme if you're into those, but if not, you'll surely be entertained by something you see in the movie. With a diverse range of topics and people, this film does a great job of keeping a light and comedic mood throughout. I highly recommend this movie.
