The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is David Fincher's sprawling epic rip off of Forrest Gump (1994). A love story involving a woman who can't accepet the love of a man with super natural characteristics (Forrest can out run a car and never runs out of breath...ever and Benjamin Button ages backwards), the main character spends a night on a ship in stormy weather and becomes the deranged captains best friend, both are period pieces involving a controversial American war, and both are very long. The difference is that Forrest Gump is good and Benjamin Button is sub par.
The special effects are great, and it has some gorgeous shots but the camera work does little to add to the film and the typical continuity editing of Hollywood is ever present throughout. The story resolves itself just as you might expect after about 30 minutes of watching it. The only interesting twist occurs in the beginning of the movie and was heavily advertised before the movie came out. I honestly didn't think this movie was very good and when most people cry out about the great story I can't get over the fact that it is a carbon copy of Forrest Gump. Anytime a new movie comes close to a renowned film such as that it probably will fall short and this one certainly does. I guess you could watch it to see what all the hype was about and check out some great makeup artistry but I wouldn't recommend it and don't plan on watching this again anytime soon.
